Programme Contents
This part-time programme is dedicated to promoting practical knowledge of inclusive education, firmly believing that every child has the potential to learn and deserves equal learning opportunities. Therefore, in addition to emphasising practical experience for students in kindergartens, we also arrange for teachers and students to simultaneously work in kindergartens that accept children with diverse needs. Together, they design and lead inclusive activities, allowing students to deepen their understanding of inclusive education through practice, thus achieving a balance between theory and practice.

Why does the programme title specifically emphasise "Inclusive Education"? What are the employment advantages?
The Government is actively promoting inclusive education, leading to a surge in demand from mainstream schools for teachers possessing knowledge of special education. Not only does this programme feature subjects related to "Diverse Learning Needs" and "Inclusive Education", but it is also the only programme in Hong Kong where tutors lead students to practise inclusive education activities at Integrated Programme Centres.
Students will undertake internships in mainstream kindergartens and Kindergartens-cum-Child Care Centres participating in the Integrated Programme. By applying inclusive education concepts, students will serve mainstream pupils, those showing early signs of special educational needs (SEN) and Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) children. This truly achieves the goal of "applying learning to practice", making our graduates more competitive in the job market with broader career prospects.
Does the programme include internships? What are the hours?
Yes. The programme provides 360 hours of internship and 84 hours of internship workshops, placing a strong emphasis on practical experience. The Institute arranges for students to intern at local kindergartens, child care centres or organisations providing inclusive education services. Through real-world working environments, students can apply classroom theories to actual teaching and accumulate valuable front-line experience.
What are the duties of a Kindergarten Teacher?
The work of a kindergarten teacher is professional and diverse, mainly covering four key areas:
What is the difference between a Child Care Worker and a Kindergarten Teacher?
How is HKCT's Higher Diploma in Early Childhood Education different from other colleges?
Apart from possessing comprehensive professional recognition, HKCT believes that "Education is not just the transmission of knowledge, but a journey of mutual growth for both teachers and students". The programme adopts a small-class teaching mode, allowing tutors to care more attentively for each student's learning progress and build close student-teacher relationships. Through interactive teaching, individual guidance and professional sharing, students not only learn theories and techniques but also cultivate a professional attitude and self-confidence under the guidance of tutors, realising the philosophy of "teachers and students growing together".
