This programme is jointly operated by HKCT Institute of Higher Education (CTIHE) and the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC); it is a Government-funded Programme. 
 

The advanced certificate programme is designed for experienced coaches seeking to deepen their professional knowledge and coaching effectiveness. It focuses on advanced coaching strategies, sports psychology, and contemporary issues in sports coaching, enabling coaches to support athlete development at a higher and more specialised level.

As collaborative partners, CTIHE and SF&OC are dedicated to offering comprehensive support for our students across career planning, further education, and employment. In recent years, we have deepened our partnership to create a diverse range of learning and development opportunities. Alongside co-organising sports coaching courses, we regularly host thematic seminars, arrange industry visits and professional internships, and facilitate exchange activities. These initiatives are designed to broaden students' horizons, help them realise their full potential, and build a strong foundation for their future endeavours.

Professional Qualification

Graduates will be awarded the 'Certificate in Advanced Sports Coaching Course', which is equivalent to Level 3 Accredited Coach (Sports-General Theory part).

Programme Contents

This programme is a Level 3 Sports-General Theory Coach Accreditation Programme jointly organised by the CTIHE and the SF&OC, in a bid to enhance the quality and recognition of sports coach education programmes. This half-year course consists of 7 modules and a 34-hour practicum.

  • Students can enjoy access to HKCT campus facilities, including the library, fitness centre, and Olympic Studies Centre.
  • The programme provides instruction in professional areas such as sports coaching, training science, and sports science. It accessibly imparts solid foundational theories and practical skills, helping students build systematic professional knowledge.
  • Aligned with the actual operations and latest demands of the sports industry, the programme also offers internship opportunities. Students can directly apply classroom learning to real-world work environments, accumulating experience through practice and fully mastering the essential practical skills required in the workplace.
  • The programme is dedicated to laying a solid and firm foundation for students' future development. Graduates are not only immediately ready to enter the workforce, but can also smoothly progress to Higher Diploma programmes, helping you continuously upskill and advance on the professional sports career ladder.

Graduation Path

Articulation Path

This programme lays a solid foundation for students' continuous education and career development in the sports coaching profession. Graduates may choose the following pathways for further development:

  • Can progress to the Diploma of Applied Education (Sports Coaching and Management) or the Higher Diploma in Fitness, Coaching and Sports Management, with further articulation to the Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Sports Management and Coaching.
  • Enrol in advanced or graded specific sports coaching qualification programmes organised by various National Sports Associations (NSAs).

 

Career Prospects

Advanced Certificate graduates will possess a deeper theoretical foundation and practical application skills, enabling them to independently undertake coaching and management duties.Career directions include:

  • Sports Coach (Community or Sports Club level)
  • College Team Coach (Leadership / Head Coach role)
  • Senior Assistant Coach
  • Sports Programme Coordinator / Development Assistant
  • Graduates also possess the ability to support athlete development pathways, assist in coach education activities, and participate in programme planning and evaluation.

Entry Requirements
    1. Holder of "Certificate in Foundation Sports Coaching Theory" pitched at QF Level 2 or other related QF Level 2 qualifications on the Qualifications Register, and Specific sport coach certificate issued by the National Sports Associations (NSAs) under SF&OC; and
    2. Nominated by a local National Sports Association (NSA);  or
    3. Nominated by the Admission Panel# 

Note: 
#Admission Panel is formed by the representatives of CTIHE and SF&OC which handles the applications without a NSA's nomination. 

Teaching Facilities
Fitness Room
 

HKCT has dedicated resources to building various indoor and outdoor sports facilities, including a fitness room with professional fitness training equipment, a mirrored Dancing & Fitness Studio and a standard basketball court. Students studying sports-related programmes can improve their athletic performance and train to become professional fitness coaches. These recreation and sports facilities are also open to the general student body to encourage them to maintain their physical and mental health, and to strengthen their sense of belonging.

Dancing & Fitness Studio
 
This is a spacious, multi-functional, mirrored studio designed for sports-related activities. Besides this Dance & Fitness Studio, HKCT has dedicated resources to building various indoor and outdoor sports facilities, such as a fitness room equipped with professional fitness training equipment and a standard basketball court. These facilities allow students taking sports-related programmes to improve their athletic performance and train to become professional fitness coaches. These recreation and sports facilities are also open to the general student body to encourage them to maintain their physical and mental health and to strengthen their sense of belonging to the Institute.
Hong Kong Centre for Olympic Studies
 

Hong Kong Centre for Olympic Studies (the Centre) at HKCT Academic Pavilion (Library) and becomes the only higher education institution in Hong Kong listed in the Academic Olympic Studies and Research Centres in the world. The Centre provides an extensive collection of books, journals, and magazines on the Olympics and sports. Also, the Centre holds exhibitions and activities periodically, which is aimed at raising teachers’ and students' awareness of Olympism and enriching students' knowledge of the sports industry.
