Introductory Sports Coaching Course

Introduction
Higher Diploma in Fitness, Coaching and Sports Management - The programme covers Fitness Training, Sports Coaching and Sports Management. It aims at equipping students with professional knowledge and skills in the sports industry. Students will acquire practical and specific industry knowledge and skills.
 
This programme is jointly operated by HKCT Institute of Higher Education (CTIHE) and the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC); It is a Government-Funded Programme.
 

This introductory course is designed for individuals who are new to sports coaching or interested in exploring a coaching pathway. It provides a basic understanding of coaching roles, fundamental skills, and safe coaching practices, laying a solid foundation for further learning and development in sports coaching.

As collaborative partners, CTIHE and SF&OC are dedicated to offering comprehensive support for our students across career planning, further education, and employment. In recent years, we have deepened our partnership to create a diverse range of learning and development opportunities. Alongside co-organising sports coaching courses, we regularly host thematic seminars, arrange industry visits and professional internships, and facilitate exchange activities. These initiatives are designed to broaden students' horizons, help them realise their full potential, and build a strong foundation for their future endeavours.

Professional Qualification

Graduates will be awarded the 'Certificate of the Introductory Sports Coaching Course', which is equivalent to Level 1 Accredited Coach (Sports-General Theory part)

Jointly organised by CTIHE and SF&OC, the Level 1 Sports-General Theory Coaching Accreditation Programme provides foundational theories in sports training and sports science for those aspiring to become sports coaches. Designed to complement the sport-specific courses offered by various sports associations, the programme equips students with the knowledge and skills to become qualified coaches in their chosen sports.

Upon completion of the programme, graduates will possess a solid theoretical foundation, enabling them to seamlessly articulate to various professional programmes to continuously upgrade their qualifications:

  • Advanced Theory: Articulate to the "Certificate in Foundation Sports Coaching Theory"
  • Specialised Development: Enrol in specific sports coaching certificate programmes organised by various National Sports Associations
  • Diverse Exploration: Participate in other professional training related to elementary sports or recreation management


Career Prospects

This programme helps students who aspire to enter the sports and recreation industry build a solid foundation. Graduates can leverage their acquired knowledge to take up various entry-level and supportive roles in the industry. Core career directions include:

  • Assistant Coach (working in sports clubs, community organisations, or National Sports Associations)
  • Community Sports Officer / Assistant

    3. Nominated by the Admission Panel#

Admission Panel is formed by the representatives of CTIHE and SF&OC, which handles the applications without a NSA's nomination.
