“Achieving Self, Serving Others” — HKCT Seven Student Organizations Graduation Ceremony
Witnessing Young Leaders Transform and Grow in the AI Era: United We Move Forward, See Each Other at the Summit

HKCT Institute of Higher Education and Hong Kong College of Technology (HKCT) held the Student Organizations Members and Executive Committee Graduation Ceremony 2025–26 on 21 May 2026 at the Auditorium of the HKCT Jockey Club Undergraduate Campus. The ceremony brought together nearly 150 members from seven major student organizations, along with their families and friends. Certificates of appreciation were presented to recognize their efforts and contributions over the past year in promoting positive values, serving fellow students, and fostering a diverse campus culture. Distinguished guests in attendance included Ms. Wong Pui Chi, Principal, and Ms. Cheng So Wah, Vice Principal of Chiu Chow Association Secondary School, as well as Mr. Tsz-chun Lau, Senior Youth & Education Officer of the Youth & Moral Education Office under the Community Relations Department of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), who joined to witness the students’ growth and transformation.

The seven participating student organizations this year included: HKCT Flag Guard Team, HKCT ICAC Ambassador Programme, HKCT Anti-deception Ambassador, “Sailing with me - Adaptation Programme for Non-local Students, Talent Mill, “We are Peers,” and Class Representative. These organizations aim to enhance students’ planning skills, develop leadership potential, and enrich their personal experiences.

Principal’s Message: Building Core Strengths Beyond AI Through Positive Values

In his address, Professor Chan Cheuk Hay, President of HKCT, commended the efforts of all student organizations over the past year: “Throughout the process of organizing activities—whether facing success or failure, joy or setbacks—these are all essential parts of growth.” He expressed his pleasure in seeing students transform responsibility, collaboration, empathy, and civic awareness into tangible learning experiences, and in putting into practice the spirit of “achieving self while serving others.” He encouraged students to stay true to their aspirations, embrace responsibility, and pursue their dreams both on and off campus.

Professor Chan also praised the activity recap videos created by students using AI, noting: “In the AI era, where technological advancement is rapid and ‘what you learn today may become obsolete tomorrow,’ the core competitiveness of humans lies in cultivating abilities and positive values that AI cannot replace. Participation in student organizations strengthens planning, execution, mobilization, and coordination skills, while broadening horizons—these are essential qualities in the AI age.”

Four Student Leaders Share Their Transformation Journey

During the sharing session, four student representatives from different organizations reflected on their memorable experiences and personal growth over the past year.

Wong Bai An, who is studying the Diploma of Applied Education (Police Cadet Training), participated in the HKCT Flag Guard Team, shared how the discipline and sense of responsibility cultivated through the team made him more composed, self-disciplined, and collaborative. He said: “My most unforgettable experience was the exchange with the Flag Guard Team of Shenzhen Polytechnic University last November, where we held the ‘Raising the National Flag Together’ ceremony and received drill training personally from a Tiananmen flag-raising officer. At that moment, when both schools raised the national flag together, I realized that all the perseverance was worthwhile.”

Kan, who serves as the President of ‘Talent Mill’ and is currently a Year Two student of the Higher Diploma in Music Production for Creative Industries, shared the challenges of organizing events. At the beginning of the academic year, he once felt overwhelmed when handling over a hundred applications and planning a large-scale audition day. Fortunately, with guidance and encouragement from senior members, he gradually overcame his uncertainty and no longer feared future challenges. These experiences taught Kan the importance of teamwork: “By always listening and supporting team decisions at the right moments, we can move forward further and more steadily. This experience of unity and collaboration is what I treasure the most.”

Muse, a Year One student of the Higher Diploma in Social Work, whilst concurrently holding multiple positions within HKCT ICAC Ambassador Programme, ‘We are Peers,’ as well as the organization ‘Talent Mill,’ successfully combined her expertise with the values of the ICAC to organize the ‘"Brewing Integrity" Coffee-shaped Candle Making Workshop.’ Through this initiative, she aspired to sow the seeds of integrity and share them with fellow students in an engaging manner. Through her involvement in “We are Peers,” she realized that growth is not a solitary journey, but one that requires companionship and mutual support. Muse said: “As long as you are willing to leverage your strengths and devote your passion, even a workshop or a sharing session can bring positive inspiration to those around you.”
Lu Xiang, a Year Two student of the Higher Diploma in Industrial Internet of Things from Mainland China, whilst participating as a member of the Executive Committee of the ‘Sailing with me - Adaptation Programme for Non-local Students,’ spent four months practicing the Cantonese warm-up song ‘Red Sun’ together with fellow Mainland classmates. She further shared her experience of planning ice-breaking games during a student society orientation activity, describing how, with the encouragement of teachers and peers, she gradually built up her confidence. She cherishes this experience deeply: “Over the past two years of campus life and various activities, I have gradually gotten to know local friends and integrated into the community, developing a strong sense of belonging.”

The ceremony concluded on a warm and joyful note with a tea reception. Equipped with valuable experiences and gratitude, these students will continue to grow and transform on their future paths, contributing positively to society.
