This programme meets the academic requirements for membership of HKIE within the fire discipline upon achieving the Master of Science in Fire Safety Engineering, awarded by the University of Lancashire.

Career Prospects


The Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Fire Engineering offers a flexible pathway for graduates to become fire and safety engineers through part-time study. Graduates of this programme are eligible to apply for the Registered Fire Engineer (RFE) after passing the interviews and examinations of the HKSAR Fire Services Department (FSD).

Entry Requirements


Route 1 (10 modules, 180 credits)

  • Applicants are required to possess a Foundation Degree in Science in Fire Safety Engineering or equivalent, subject to the final decision of the institute.

Route 2 (12 modules, 230 credits)

  • Applicants are required to possess a Higher Diploma (HD) / Associate Degree (AD) / Higher National Diploma (HND) or equivalent in relevant disciplines, such as building services engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, with mathematics studied; OR
  • Higher Diploma (HD) in other relevant disciplines, provided the applicant can demonstrate competency in mathematics and has a minimum of 3 years of experience in a related profession. Qualified applicants will be invited for an interview. 


Language Proficiency Requirement

  • Applicants whose qualifications were not taught and assessed in English are required to demonstrate their English proficiency as equivalent to IELTS 6.0. 
Tuition Fees and Assistance

Total $115,000 (in 6 installments)

Administration Fee: $1,750 (upon 1st instalment)


HKCT Alumni Fee Reduction*

  • Applicants who have graduated from the Centre of International Education (CIE) at HKCT and have successfully completed a one-year or longer programme within the past 3 academic years, and who have successfully enrolled in a higher-level programme provided by CIE are eligible for this benefit.
  • 5% of the total tuition fee reduction for the higher-level programme will be deducted from the final instalment of the tuition payment.

*Remark: In the event of any dispute, the decision of HKCT Institute of Higher Education shall be final.
